This thing that makes me happy

Readers, a gift I received this Christmas is 50 classic Sci-Fi movies. When I saw the title of three of these, I knew I had to share it with the universe. I encourage you loyal readers to take to facebook, twitter, or to just share these with friends. Anyway, here are the titles:

1.Bride of the Gorilla
2.Santa Claus conquers the Martians
3.White Pongo

Super 8 movie review

Hello readers! I am bringing a new segment to the blog which is movie and book reviews, and pop culture updates. The first movie review I am offering up is a review of the movie Super 8. This movie was written and directed by J.J. Abrams, and produced by Steven Spielberg. This movie takes place in the late 70's, with a cast of young, very talented actors. I really loved this movie except lets just say that the American Air-Force does not get the best portrayal in this movie. Other then that I just plain loved this film. It captured the feel of classic 70 type sci-fi movies and was just awesome. Highly recommended by me unless you are part of the American Air-Force or know someone in the American Air-Force. That's all for now folks, have a great New Year!

Review of Batman Knight of Vengeance

Recently DC comics has come out with a great mini-series called Flashpoint. With Flashpoint came mini-series based off Flashpoint. Case in point: Batman Knight of Vengeance. In the strange world of Batman Knight of Vengeance, it was not Bruce Wayne's parents who died that night in Crime Alley, but just Bruce. Thomas Wayne became the Dark Knight, and Martha Wayne, well that's where it gets interesting. In the horror of losing her beloved son, she went mad, cut a smile across her face, and became the infamous Joker. Somehow she knows Thomas is Batman. So when he finds her with dead body's all around, you can just feel the awkwardness. Tomorrow: A review of the entire Red Robin series.

Review of A Study in Scarlet graphic novel

A Study in Scarlet graphic novel is a great adaption of the classic mystery story by Arthur Conan Doyle. This book retells the first mystery Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson collaborated on. The book is illustrated by I.N.J. Culbard, and the original text is adapted by Ian Edginton. This book is great for fans of Sherlock Holmes and fans of the mystery genre. Tomorrow: A review of Batman Knight of Vengeance.

Review of Spirit Archives Vol. 1

The Spirit Archives Vol.1 collects some of the first short comic book stories chronicling the adventures of the Spirit. The genius behind The Spirit is comic book legend Will Eisner. The Spirit features such characters as his cab driving sidekick Ebony, Police Commissioner Dolan, and finally The Spirits love interest Ellen Dolan. I just can't say how highly I recommend this book to all you readers. I would recommend this book to fans of comics in general.

Review of Justice

Justice. A story that needed to be told. With the script by Jim Krueger and art by Doug Braithwaite and Alex Ross, Justice truly tells a tale of heroic justice. The book features most if not all of DC's greatest heroes and villains. Justice tells the story of when the villains of the earth unite against the Justice League of America. Filled with excitement, thrills, and talking gorillas, Justice has it all. I would recommend Justice to fans of the Justice League of America. Tomorrow: A review of the Spirit Archives vol. 1

Review of Marvel 1602

What would it be like if the marvel heroes existed in the early 15th century? That is a question that Marvel 1602 answers. Marvel 1602 is written by Neil Gaiman, and drawn by Andy Kubert. Marvel 1602 deals with what it would be like if some of the most major marvel heroes were on our earth in a time of superstition, it also shows the affect they would have on our world. I personally found this to be one of my favorite Marvel stories. I would recommend Marvel 1602 to fans of Neil Gaiman, to fans of Andy Kubert, and to fans of the Marvel universe. Tomorrow: A Review of Justice.

Batman The Killing Joke

Batman The Killing Joke. In the world of Batman, Batman The Killing Joke is synonymous with the word awesome. Featuring a heavily entertaining script by Alan Moore, and eye opening illustrations by Brian Bolland, Batman The Killing Joke tells not only the origin of the Joker, but also tells the tale of Batman and the Joker as two people who are following a trail that can only end with one of then dead. Also in the story, the Joker shoots Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) through the waist. Crippling her. I would recommend Batman The Killing Joke to fans of Brian Bolland, Alan Moore, to fans of Batman, and to fans of the Joker.

Review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, a story of the dark side of a superhero. Written and drawn by Frank Miller, Batman Dark Knight Returns tells the story of a retired Batman who comes back to the world of crime fighting after ten years of retirement. Batman faces off against the Mutant gang, the Joker, and the Mutants deadly leader. Ironically, Batman's greatest problem is none of these, but Superman. Also, Batman takes in a young girl as the new Robin. To be honest, I love this book, but the sequel (Batman Dark Knight Strikes Again) stunk. I couldn't even read the first 20 pages. I would recommend Batman Dark Knight Returns to fans of Frank Miller and to fans of Batman.

Batman Venom

Batman Venom is a tale not for the easily saddened. Batman Venom tells the tale of when Batman gets addicted to, basically, enhanced steroids. Not to spoil the story, but I will tell you that the ending is saddening, or at least it was for me. The story is written by the acclaimed writer, Denny O'Neil, and drawn by Russel Braun. Personally, this is one of my favorite Batman stories. I would recommend Batman Venom to fans of Denny O'Neil, and to fans of Batman. Tomorrow: A review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.

Review of Batman the long Halloween

Batman the long Halloween is a absolute classic story that pits Batman against the mysterious killer, Holiday. Batman the long Halloween is written by Jeph Loeb, and illustrated by Tim Sale. The killer Holiday only strikes on holidays. The first kill occurs on Halloween and the last murder occurs on next year's Halloween. With characters ranging from Batman himself to the infamous mobster Carmine Falcone. Readers, if you do read this, please comment and tell whether or not you figured out who Holiday was. Good luck. I would recommend this book to fans of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Tomorrow: A review of Batman venom.

Review of Batman Chronicles vol. 1

Batman Chronicles vol. 1 is a awesome collection of some of the first Batman stories ever made. In this collection of stories we see the first appearances of such characters as the Joker, Catwoman, and best of all, Batman's sidekick: Robin. For me, a fun part of reading this collection is seeing the evolution of Batman. In fact, in some stories Batman carries a gun. I would recommend this graphic novel to fans of Batman. Tomorrow: A review of Batman The Long Halloween.

Review of Batman Year One

Before I begin my review of the amazing comic book mini-series Batman Year One, I have a announcement. I am declaring a Batman Week. A week in which I review everything Batman. And I felt that the one true way to begin Batman week would be to review the story that showed his first year fighting crime in Gotham city. The story is by Frank Miller, a man that gives comics a dark and certain edgy quality that makes them all the more entertaining. And the book is illustrated by none other than David Mazzucchelli. I feel that his work is both simplistic and detailed. I just plain love his art style. I would recommend this book to fans of Batman Begins, to fans of Frank Miller, and to fans of David Mazzucchelli. Tomorrow: A review of Batman Chronicles vol. 1

Review of American Splendor

In the history of phenomenal movies, from the thriller Jaws, to the sci-fi epic Star Wars, American Splendor is in my opinion, one of the greatest movies in the history film. It tells the tale of one of comics best underground writers. His name was Harvey Pekar. He was one of America's great underdogs, who decided to tell his tale in comic book form. And if you are paying attention, then you would note that I've been using past tense. I regret to tell you that Harvey Pekar, a guy you wouldn't want to meet in a bad mood, passed away several years ago. But although he is gone, people still laugh at his cynical humor in the hit comic: American Splendor. The movie documents the time in his life when he decided to begin making a comic book about his life. I would recommend this movie to fans of the American Splendor comic book series. Tomorrow: A review of Batman Year one.

Review of Batman Begins

Batman Begins is a movie that shows the beginning of Batman's legendary crime fighting career. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan, and Batman is played by Christian Bale, who in my opinion is one of the best actors who I've seen play Batman. One thing I would like to point out is that I feel that Batman Year One was a large inspiration to this film. In the movie batman faces off against such villains as Carmine Falconey, Gotham city's biggest gangster. The scarecrow who can make you experience your worst fear, and Ra's al Ghul, one of Batman's most dangerous foes. I would recommend this film to fans of Batman Year one, and to fans of the Batman comic book series.

Review of Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider is a great movie, featuring one of Marvel comic's most interesting characters. Ghost Rider, a.k.a Johnny Blaze is played by Nicholas Cage. In the movie, the dark and supernatural hero Ghost Rider faces off against the devil's son: Black Heart and several fallen angels. This movie has your standard superhero action but also has a cool feel of the supernatural and religious tones. The movie shows a whole different breed of superhero, if you could call Ghost Rider a superhero. I would recommend this movie to fans of the Ghost Rider comic book series. Tomorrow: A review of Batman begins

Review of Batman the movie

Batman the movie is a awe inspiring film, featuring such actors as Michael Keaton (Batman), Jack Nicholson (The Joker), and Kim Basinger (Vicki Vale). The film is directed by Tim Burton, who's resume boasts of directing the film Beetlejuice. But to comment on the actors, Michael Keaton gives the character Batman a interesting and more psychologically oriented feel. And needless to say, Jack Nicholson gives a award winning performance as the evil laughing mastermind the Joker. And finally, to Kim Basinger. She plays Batman's tough and smart love interest, Vicki Vale. I would recommend this film to fans of the Batman comic book series. Tomorrow: A review of Ghost Rider the movie.

Review of Iron Man the movie

I would like to announce that I am calling a movie week. That means until next Monday I will only be doing reviews of films linked to comic books, and to start off movie week I will review the acclaimed film: Iron Man. Iron Man is a wonderful movie, retelling the origin of the armored superhero Iron Man. Iron Man, a.k.a Tony Stark is brilliantly portrayed by Robert Downey junior. The movie features a cast of interesting characters such as Iron Man's secretary/love interest Pepper Pots, Iron Man's best friend James Rodes,  and who could forget the chief villain: Obidiah Stain. I would recommend this film to fans of the Iron Man comic book series. Tomorrow: A review of Batman.

Review of La Primavera

La Primavera is a wonderful graphic novel by a the talented artist and writer, Alexis Fredrick-Frost. It recounts several men taking on a epic bicycling challenge, and shows one mans determination to win it. I would recommend this beautifully crafted graphic work to fans of Frost's other book ( Where he collaborated with 2 friends James Sturm and Andrew Arnold.) Adventures in cartooning. Tomorrow: A review of Iron Man the movie.

Review of Ronin

Ronin is a amazing and strange story. Written and illustrated by Frank Miller, Ronin tells a unique story with many unique characters. The story takes place in a computerized New York City. Although this is not one of the best stories by Frank Miller I've ever read, it is still a entertaining story. I Would recommend Ronin to fans of Frank Miller. Tomorrow: A review of La Primavera.

Review of Watchmen

I am so sorry dear readers, that I could not keep up my promise to post a new review on Wednesday. I could not write a new post because I was with my grandparents picking up my uncle who had been in Australia for the last 11 months and 4 days. But enough about me, on to the review. Watchmen is a story that breaks the very limits of what a superhero story could be. Written by one of comics greatest writers Alan Moore, and illustrated by the talented Dave Gibbons. Watchmen takes a look at what it would really be like to be a superhero. With characters that range from the godlike Dr.Manhattan, to the vigilante Rorschach. Watchmen is packed full of colorful characters. I would recommend Watchmen to fans of Alan Moore and to fans of Dave Gibbons. Tomorrow: A review of Ronin

Review of Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come is one of the most entertaining stories of the 20th century. With amazing writing by Mark Waid, and with illustrations so fantastic I can't even begin to describe them by Alex Ross. Kingdom Come takes place several years in the future, with the children and grandchildren of the heroes of yesteryear running amok. Disaster after disaster being caused by them, Superman, who has been retired for ten years steps back into the ring in a attempt to bring down rogue metahuman activity with the help of a new Justice League. Old friends turned enemies and old enemies turned friend, the book is packed with characters. But to digress, I will unfortunately be going camping until Wednesday. But don't worry dear reader, on Wednesday I'll be back hunched over my computer typing away. Good bye! For now........

Review of JLA earth 2

Before I begin my review let me just tell you how excited I am to review JLA ( Justice League of America) earth 2. This is one of my favorite JLA stories of all time. It is written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Frank Quitely. JLA earth 2 is basically this. Imagine a world where the pilgrims went to the UK instead of North America, where Benedict Arnold is on the one dollar bill, where there is a statue of Adolf Hitler in Britain to honor his memory, and where instead of a Justice League of America, there is a Crime Syndicate of Amerika. Basically Alexander Luthor, one of the only heroes on his dark world comes to our world seeking the help of the JLA ( Justice League of America) to take down the CSA (Crime Syndicate of Amerika.) The book is packed with thrills and is simply, amazing. I would recommend this book to fans of the JLA, Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, and to fans of stories simply involving the anti-matter universe. Tomorrow: A review of Kingdom Come

Review Daredevil Yellow

If there is such a thing as a story that can keep you thrilled and holding on to your seat one minute, and then put a lump in your throat the next, it would have to be Daredevil Yellow. Brilliantly written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale, Daredevil Yellow retells the origin of Daredevil a.k.a. Matt Murdock. Not only that but DY also retells the romance of Matt Murdock and Karen Page. I would recommend this book to fans of the Daredevil comic book, and to fans of the Daredevil movie. Tomorrow: A review of JLA earth 2

Review of Ulitimate Spider-Man volume 1

Ultimate Spider-Man volume 1 is a spectacular graphic novel. It collects the first 7 issues of the comic book series " Ultimate Spider-Man." Ultimate Spider-Man volume 1 is scripted by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Mark Bagley. This book retells Spider-Man's origin in a new way. The book even retells the origin of one Spider-Man's greatest foes: The Green Goblin. I would recommend this book to fans of Spider-Man and of Brian Michael Bendis. I would recommend this book to fans of Spider-Man. Tomorrow: A review of The Rocketeer The complete adventures

Review of Batman Under the red hood the animated movie

Batman Under the red hood is, in my opinion, a wonderful animated movie. It shows Batman at his darkest hour and pits the Dark Knight against one of his greatest foes: The Red Hood. The movie features voices from actors such as Bruce Greenwood (Batman),  Neil Patrick Harris (Nightwing), Jensen Ackles (The Red Hood). I'd like to point out that the movie is based off the comic book series Batman Under the Hood. I would recommend this movie to fans of Batman and Robin. Tomorrow: A review of Ultimate Spider-man volume 1.

Batman: Hush review

Today's post consists of a review for the acclaimed Batman: Hush saga. Batman: Hush is a thrilling story featuring superb writing by Jeph Loeb. A writer who has authored such works as Daredevil:Yellow, Spider-man: Blue, Hulk: Grey, Batman: The Long Halloween and many more. And the artist who illustrated Batman: Hush is none other than Jim Lee. Jim Lee has worked on projects such as Punisher: War Journal, Alpha Flight, and X-Men. But getting back to Batman: Hush, the book features many of Batman's greatest allies as well as his greatest enemies. Jim Lee's artwork gives Batman a heroic yet dark look. And Jeph Loeb's writing can only be described as astounding. This book is a must read to all readers of Batman and of Jeph Loeb. Including fans of Jim Lee. Well, that concludes today's post. As Arnold Swarzenegger once said, " I"ll be back!" Tomorrow: A review of the animated movie Batman Under the Red Hood
